Moravian Music Festival

23rd Moravian Music Festival
Sunday July 19th – Saturday July 25th.
Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, NC

The Festival closed with a moving Choral Concert given by the Festival Chorus and orchestra directed by:
Dr. John V. Sinclair. The orchestra was led by faculty members from Rollins College, Florida, where Dr. Sinclair is Director of Music.

On Saturday, a rousing concert was given at Belmont Abbey College by the Festival Trombone Choir led by
Dr. Donna K. Rothrock, of Salem College, Winston-Salem

A DVD of a concert by the Salem Brass Band from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, is available from the Moravian Music Foundation for a suggested donation of $20.00. For more than 500 years Moravians have celebrated their faith through music. This rich legacy is showcased every three years at the Moravian Music Festival, a week-long exploration and presentation of traditional and new Moravian music. Old and young, professional and novice, Moravians and non-Moravians all gather to celebrate the past and explore the future with music.

Who participates in the Moravian Music Festival?

Band Rehearsal
Anyone with an interest in music. Musicians from high school through retirement, from the United States and worldwide, participate. Some 200 attendees rehearse and perform Moravian choral, orchestral and band music during the festival.

What is a day like at the festival?

Each day participants are totally immersed in Moravian music. Activities include devotion, workshops, music technique instruction, rehearsals and free public concerts each day at 1pm and 7:30pm. There is also time for fellowship, making new friends and enjoying the many attractions in the festival area. (workshop topics, tours/activities pages)

What about the festival location and facilities?

Belmont Abbey
The 2009 festival will be held on the campus of beautiful Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, NC. The college is a small liberal arts institution with excellent facilities for worship, workshops, rehearsals, concerts, housing, food service, recreation, etc. Belmont Abbey is located adjacent to Interstate 85 and is within minutes of many arts, cultural, historic, recreational and leisure attractions in the greater Belmont-Charlotte area.

New Hymns for the Moravian Unity from the Southern Province

The Festival is pleased to offer a compilation of non published hymns by members from the Southern Province. This hymnbook is being compiled by Dr Dirk French, music Director at New Beginnings Moravian Church. Authors and composers include

E.Artis Webber, John H.Giesler, Dirk French and others.

We ask for a suggested donation of $15. to help defray production costs with all profits going to Festival expenses. Please help us by reserving the number you would like on your registration form.
