Diane Thornton has been a part of the Festival workshops team for months, and it is only the oversight of the editor of the Festival program book that resulted in her biography being omitted from the program book. She will lead the vocal techniques workshops for women. My deepest apologies to Diane for this omission! --NRK

* Getting Out the Information: Publicity - Lou Ann Lamb, Marketing Director for Business Services at UNC Charlotte. and Sherry Mason Brown, Design Consultant for Herman Miller.
* From Off-Pitch to Off-the-Staff: The Vocal Journey of a Chorister - Laura Jane Kist. In 1996, Laura Jane Fuller Kist founded the Messiah Choristers, sponsored by Messiah Moravian Church, to function both as a church choir and a community outreach program. This session presents ideas for teaching children (K-12) to sing - from first experiences of learning to match pitch to becoming a solid choral singer. We’ll practice vocal techniques and pedagogical methods, discuss training materials, and peruse repertoire to help you start a children's choir and/or grow the one you already have. Come explore the possibilities!
* Woodwind Techniques - Marie Hines, Band Director, New Philadelphia Moravian Church, Winston-Salem, NC. This workshop presents suggestions for improving the sound and technique of woodwind sections and ensembles. Ideas for using woodwind ensembles in worship will be discussed.
* Let’s Talk and Ring - Dorothy Perdue, Director of Bell Choirs, Friedland Moravian Church, Winston-Salem, NC. Let’s talk about how to get a hand bell choir started in your church and where to find good materials. Then let’s ring together, using some familiar and maybe some new ringing techniques. Let’s just have fun with bells!
* Moravian Musicians’ Resource Network - Michael Westmoreland, Director of Music, Fries Memorial Church, Winston-Salem, NC. Come and share your thoughts and ideas as we work to set up an online library of music by and for today’s Moravian musicians. We’re seeking input from congregational music leaders to help us construct a user-friendly website where Moravian church musicians can both post their own original works and arrangements as well as access the works of their fellow Moravian musicians. So whether you compose, direct, sing, or play, please join us as we brainstorm and implement this exciting 21st century venture sure to benefit all church music programs!
