Optional Tours and Activities


There’s a lot to do and see in the greater Belmont-Charlotte area. The following options will be available for Festival participants:
* Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens - This 450-acre retreat features many different seasonal gardens,
fountains, sculptures, trails, an orchid conservatory, shop, etc. Cost: $10, $9 seniors, plus transportation.
* Uptown Charlotte - The Queen City is a large banking center and home to office towers, museums, galleries, entertainment, restaurants, etc.
Discovery Place -
Levine Museum of the New South - This interactive museum features award-winning interpretation of post-Civil War Southern history through permanent and changing exhibits, collections, lectures, etc. Cost: $6, $5 seniors, plus transportation.
* Latta Plantation - Once a thriving cotton plantation built in circa 1800, this nature preserve is home to a living history farm with plantation house, equestrian and raptor centers.
Historic Park Admission - Guided tour of plantation house, self-guided tour of grounds and outbuildings. Cost: $6, seniors $5, plus transportation
Equestrian Center - It is a 2 hour horseback ride through the trails on the plantation with a guide. Cost: $23, plus transportation.
Carolina Raptor Center - This nationally acclaimed facility is dedicated to environmental education through the conservation of birds of prey, the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned raptors and research. Cost: $7, seniors $6, plus transportation.
* Tour of Moravian Churches in Mecklenburg County - See the worship and education facilities of the Little Church on the Lane and Peace Moravian Church. Cost: transportation.

* U.S. National Whitewater Center - Located on the banks of the Catawba River, this is the world’s largest artificial whitewater facility and an official U.S. Olympic Training Site. Participants will receive orientation, gear and then raft the rapids during the four hour visit. Cost: admission $5, gear and rafting $80, plus transportation.
Note: On Thursday afternoon participants will have the option of going on a tour listed above or staying on campus for workshops and a movie. More details to follow.
