| Wednesday Evening, July 22: Traditional Anthem Sing. |
| The mid-20th century saw the re-introduction of some unbelievably beautiful choral music to singers and audiences, as a great many anthems written by the early Moravians in America were rediscovered and published. While Moravian music collections contain thousands of anthems yet to be edited and published, it simply will not do for these gems, earliest to be introduced to Moravians and others, to be forgotten. Many of us grew up as Moravian musicians hearing and singing these works, and there is a great deal of joy and delight to be had in singing them again, with the accompaniment of the Festival orchestra, and conducted by some of our own Festival participants. The conductors will be fresh from a 3-day conducting seminar with Festival conductor Dr. John V. Sinclair where they will be studying these very pieces. Festival participants will sing through about a dozen familiar anthems, and all are invited to enjoy these that we affectionately call “war horses” – and learn them again or perhaps experience them for the first time! |
